Yin

Yin Yoga is a slow-paced style of yoga. Yin asana(postures) are held for longer periods of time than other styles, anywhere from 1min to 5min. This sequence and duration of holding is meant to stimulate the channels of energy in the body. By holding the postures you are applying moderate stress to connective tissues like the tendons, fasciae, and ligaments, circulation in the joints is stimulated and improves flexibility.

Yin is a more meditative approach to yoga. If you are looking to start your meditation practice, Yin is a wonderful place to start by increasing awareness, inner silence, and connecting the mind and body.
